About Steven Smith

Steven Smith BA, BEd, GradDipEd (Computing)

Steven is the Director and principal consultant of United Focus.

Steven has been teaching people about computers and the Internet and advising organisations about it since the early 1980s. Steven Smith is one of Australia’s leading Internet consultants and has been advising organisations about their online strategies since 1995. He has just chaired in Sydney a major conference, Website Usability, he reviewed the Australian Government’s website better practice checklists; advised on and co-wrote www.e-businessguide.gov.au, www.staysmartonline,gov,au and www.flexibilityworks.dewr.gov.au for the Australian Government. He has delivered Web workshops for a variety of industry bodies and government around Australia. He has recently reviewed websites for Elders, National Archives, National Museum and education.gov.au.

He graduated in Arts (Classical Studies and History majors) and Education from the University of Adelaide, South Australia.

He was a teacher of History and English, and was Head of Computing at a leading independent school prior to establishing United Focus Pty Ltd in 1995.

His combined experience in educational theory, writing, the behaviour of online users and his knowledge of the Web have enabled him to secure large national projects.

Adviser - Steven has a deep understanding of the Web and the way in which organisations use and manage it. His teaching background has given him an understanding of the way people interact with technology, while his eleven years as a website consultant have armed him with vast experience and lessons learnt advising organisations about their use of the Internet as a business tool. 

Presenter - Steven is an acclaimed workshop presenter and public speaker.  He has presented to audiences throughout Australia and internationally, in Canada, the USA and Fiji, and to a wide variety of industry sectors, including: arts, building, food, accounting, law, public service, tourism and education.

Writer - Steven has written many papers and reports on the Internet and e-business. He wrote the Digitisation of Collections Report (PDF 596KB) for the Australian Government in 1996 and is the author of the book Living Websites, understanding the life cycle – a practical guide. He co-authored the Australian Government's website on e-security - www.staysmartonline.gov.au and edited the workplace relations website - www.flexibilityworks.dewr.gov.au
